Adopt Kyler An Honorary Cairn!

Adopt Kyler an honorary Cairn!

He came to the wonderful rescue group Col. Potter Cairn Rescue Network from a shelter. Doesn’t he look like a Cairn? But he is…can you guess? We’ll tell you in a bit.

This boy is about three years old, and is being fostered in Pensacola, Florida. If you would like to adopt him and you don’t live nearby, Col. Potter will help you problem-solve about how to get him to your town. He would be OK to travel by air, or by car.

Kyler is a shy boy, and a gentle soul. There are things he will let his foster mom do, such as bathing and grooming and brushing. He will take treats, and will come to her, but not get too close. His tail is a wagging machine when he sees her come home from work. He tries to trust her, but is still hesitant.  His initial reaction when she approaches is flight, but if she starts to walk away he follows her, and he wants to hang out with her. He will need a person or family who understands the needs of dogs who are shy, and still learning to trust.

Why not visit the website and see his profile at :  Available cairns . While there it makes sense to fill out an adoption application!

Kyler loves to collect all the toys when foster mom is at work. He puts them all in one of the beds in the room. He hangs out with his foster sister Ella, and poor Ella’s bed is jammed full of toys. He is at complete ease and playful with Ella. It would be terrific if he had a playful female pup in his new home and it might help him become more trusting. Here’s Kyler in his first video.

Little Kyler had Heartworm, but had treatment and is Heartworm negative now. He also has a congenital eye condition resulting in no vision in his left eye.  Kyler is still working on his house training. There are no accidents when foster mom is home, but when when she is at work, there might be a puddle of pee. He is able to escape from his belly band!

Kyler is very good  when going for walks on leash. He is initially frightened when foster mom approaches with the leash, but he stays still for her to hook it up. He will only walk behind her or at her side. If he is enjoying the moment and forgets his fear and gets in front of her, he quickly gets back behind her.  She feels that he has to be able to see what she is doing. He loves the quiet wooded area where she walks him.

Here is his second video. Note that he loves running around in the back yard.

Drum rolls…..what did you guess his other breeds are! I will tell you…. Rat Terrier and Norwegian Elkhound! So exotic!

Kyler is getting more confident every day. His foster mom says that “for the right loving, patient person she’s sure he’ll cast aside his caution and become a loving little companion doggy!” Hurry! Fill out that adoption application. Kyler is waiting.
