Greetings Thursday-ites. Good grief, its almost Friday. Hopefully we will finish this before midnight! Aren’t we the silly ones!
Some of you may have guessed who the mystery dog on yesterday’s post was. Yes! Livvie and Kessie are getting a new sister. Her name is Twinkle Toes. (More information on Saturday. Twinkle Toes is being adopted from Col. Potter Cairn Rescue Network, but she is not a Cairn).
We feel that Matilda is looking down on us and smiling. Maybe as our dog mythology tells us, Matilda “sent” Twinkle to us. It’s a wonderful feeling to think that our worlds could work this way. We would adore feeling that this is “meant to be.”
Mostly, I feel hopeful and of course, anxious. How will we bring little Twinkle Toes in so that she integrates organically into the household? Certainly, I’ve had experience doing this many times. The most recent time was about a year and a half ago when Kessie came. We faced the obstacle of his fear of large dogs. Matilda was more like a unicorn though.
I doggedly choreographed the introductions, and it worked perfectly. Now I face a different combination of personalities. Since Matilda’s death, there isn’t a steady, calm, reliable dog in the household. Liv and Kes are zesty, spicy, passionate loves. Calm and steady they are not!
Again, I have a plan, but am not as confident. Will Livvie give Twinkle Toes the hairy eyeball? It makes me miss Matilda even more.
I return to my original sense of recognition when I first noticed Twinkle. She has a little wise face, and in her eyes I saw Matilda.
I’m taking a breath, and trusting that we will feel Matilda’s magical presence as we greet little Twinkle Toes and promise to love her forever.
