Imagine adopting Totoro, a beguiling little Cairn who had a rocky start in life, and being able to turn that around with love and good care. That’s the process that has already begun with little three year old Totoro, who was rescued by Col Potter Cairn Rescue Network. See his Intake Story, and learn how his name Totoro means a mythical Japanese creature who brings happiness to children and families.
Sadly, Totoro, a black brindle boy, was given as a gift. For the first three years of his life he was isolated from people and other dogs Now, in his foster home, as a cherished pet, he has discovered the outdoors and zoomies!
His foster mom says that he is embracing his new life as a beloved pet. When he first came to his foster home, he was timid, but has come a long way, with patience and love. She calls him a brave boy, and and says that although he is still shy, he has moments when his happiness and joy shine through. He can radiate such happiness that he bounces up and down on the furniture. He also adores walks!
His prey drive is intact, and he enjoys barking at any squirrel, bunny or bird he encounters. Granted, he could use a little more work on his leash walking. His love of exploring and listening to neighborhood sounds is remarkable.
One of Totoro’s other new hobbies is playing with toys. He loves to pick up stuffies, toss them around and run around the room with them. Then he sits down to gently nibble them. He also enjoys chewing on (humanely harvested) antlers.
Totoro goes limp when you pick him up, but he loves being held closely. He is involved in some obedience training to acquaint him with the basics as a pet. He also learns quite a bit from the resident dogs. This lovely boy is house-broken, does not mark, and sleeps quietly in his crate. He is being fostered in Chicago. If you are interested in him, please see his Profile and while there, fill out an adoption application. Col. Potter will help you problem-solve about how to get him to your town, if you are not nearby. This is a remarkable opportunity to adopt a young Cairn who is growing emotionally in leaps and bounds. You could be the lucky person who grows with him!
