Taggart the Cairn terrier is a boy who has been both very lucky in his short life, and very un-lucky. Suffice it to say that when Taggart, at 18 months old, ran into trouble, Col. Potter Cairn Rescue was there to swoop him up. This darling, affectionate and loving boy wasn’t properly socialized as a young puppy, leaving him a bit rowdy. He is friendly and out-going, but had been allowed to be in charge.
You can watch Taggart on these videos.
When he got to his foster home in Connecticut, he had narrowly escaped with his life. Click HERE to see his Intake Story. If you aren’t in Connecticut, don’t let that stop you. Col. Potter can help you figure out how to transport him to wherever you are. (Unless that is Siberia).
Taggart has been attending obedience classes with his foster mom for six months, and now, just as he turns two, he is doing pretty well with it. He has mastered, “sit” , “wait” and is working on “down” and “come”. He has some fears, and is also making progress with those.
His foster mom speaks highly of him when she tells us that “the biggest and best thing about Taggart is his capacity for love.” She feels that when he looks at her, his “eyes just glow – he’s got so much to give.” Taggart is a fast-learner, bright, and a “super snuggler.” He’s trying very hard to learn rules, and get along with the other resident dogs. His manners have greatly improved. Click HERE to see his profile. Why not fill out an adoption application while you are there!
Like all dogs with some rough edges, his new person or people will need to continue working with him on obedience. He engages in some food and toy-guarding, which he has made progress on. His new forever home would need to be one without other dogs or small children, and should be experienced with Cairns or other terriers. They should also be prepared to be loved intensely!
We are participating in Tuesdays Tails blog hop. You can check it out to see if there is a pet there you might want to adopt. You can also post dogs, cats, birds, gerbils, etc, from your local rescue group or shelter. Thanks to Dogs N Pawz for hosting!
